From Psychology Graduate
to Psychology Practitioner.
Completing an MSc in Psychology gives you the theoretical foundation. But stepping into a real case can feel very different.
The In Real Life Practice Lab bridges that gap through hands-on, case-based learning designed to build clinical thinking, case conceptualisation and practical confidence.
What could you do differently?
Knowing psychology
is not the same as
practising it.
The transition from postgraduate study to real psychological work can feel surprisingly unfamiliar. The Practice Lab exists in that space between knowing and doing.
You know the theory.
An MSc in Psychology gives you the foundation — concepts, models, techniques and research.
Then a real case walks in.
Suddenly, knowing the theory is only the beginning. You have to decide what matters, what to ask and where to start.
This is where practice begins.
Clinical thinking develops when you repeatedly work through cases, make decisions, practice skills and reflect on your choices.
We don't replace the theory.
We teach you how to work with it.
Learn by
doing the work.
The Practice Lab follows a simple cycle. You learn the foundation, observe how it comes together, formulate what you understand, Practice your response and reflect on what happened.
Build the foundation.
Understand the concepts, psychological processes and techniques that shape clinical work.
Learn to notice.
Look beyond the presenting concern. Notice patterns, behaviour, context and what is happening in the room.
Make sense of the case.
Connect the information. Identify patterns, maintaining factors, strengths and therapeutic needs.
Put thinking into action.
Work through realistic scenarios and Practice questioning, goal setting, intervention and session structure.
Think about your thinking.
Review what happened, examine your choices and develop the habit of learning from every clinical interaction.
Don't just learn a technique.
Learn when, why and how to use it.
This is where
you Practice.
Practice Lab is built around doing the work. Each activity takes you one step further into the process of approaching a psychological case with greater structure and intention.
Case Study
Learn to understand a client beyond the presenting problem — looking at the person, context and concerns together.
Case Formulation
Identify patterns, maintaining factors, strengths and therapeutic needs to build a clearer understanding of the case.
Role Play
Practice therapist–client interactions through realistic scenarios where you can experiment, make mistakes and try again.
Assessment & Questioning
Learn what to ask, why to ask it and how to explore concerns without turning a session into an interrogation.
Goal Setting
Translate presenting concerns into meaningful therapeutic goals that give the work a clearer direction.
Intervention Planning
Understand how to choose and sequence appropriate psychological techniques based on the formulation and therapeutic goals.
Session Planning
Learn how to structure a session with intention rather than simply entering the room and having a conversation.
Clinical Reflection
Develop the habit of thinking about what happened in a session and what could be understood, adjusted or done differently.
You don't learn clinical work
by only talking about it.
You learn it by working through cases, testing your thinking, practising your responses and reflecting on what you could do differently.
You don't leave
with just more
theory.
The goal isn't simply to know more psychology. It is to become more comfortable thinking through a case, making clinical decisions and reflecting on your work.
Psychology
Graduate
You have the theoretical foundation, but real cases can feel unfamiliar when there is no textbook telling you what comes next.
Learn
by doing.
Work through cases, Practice interactions, formulate problems, plan interventions and reflect on your decisions.
Psychology
Practitioner
You begin to approach psychological work with greater structure — thinking through what matters, what to ask and what to do next.
The shift isn't about replacing what you already know. It is about learning how to use it.
Theory gives you the foundation.
Practice builds the practitioner.
Is this where
you are?
Practice Lab is for people who already have an interest or foundation in psychology and want to move closer to practical psychological work.
Psychology Graduates
You have completed your psychology education and want to understand what practical psychological work looks like beyond the classroom.
Psychology Postgraduates
You have a stronger theoretical foundation and want to develop the thinking and practical structure needed to approach cases.
Aspiring Practitioners
You are preparing to step into psychological work and want a space to Practice before navigating cases on your own.
The space between learning psychology and beginning to Practice it.
If you are ready to move from knowing psychology to practising it, the Lab is built for that transition.
You know
psychology.
Now Practice it.
Theory gives you the foundation.
Practice builds the practitioner.
Practice Lab is a space to work through cases, Practice your thinking and develop a more structured approach to psychological work.
